What is the Berliner Wine Trophy?

Held twice a year in Berlin, the Berliner Wine Trophy is organized under the patronage of the OIV (International Organisation of Vine and Wine) and the UIOE (International Union of Oenologists). It welcomes over 14,000 wine entries annually from around the globe.

Wines are evaluated in a strict blind tasting by an international jury, and only 30% of entries are awarded medals – making this competition highly selective and respected in the wine industry.

What Makes the Egri Bikavér Grand Superior Nagy-Eged 2021 So Special?

The Grand Superior is the highest quality category within the Egri Bikavér classification, and this particular wine is crafted from grapes grown in the renowned Nagy-Eged vineyard, located on the southern slopes of the Nagy-Eged hill. This terroir is one of the most distinctive in the Eger wine region, offering optimal conditions for varieties like Kékfrankos, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Kadarka.

The philosophy behind this wine began as early as 2008, during vineyard planning and grape planting. The goal was clear: to create a deep, complex, and elegant Egri Bikavér that honors the region’s traditions while expressing the unique character of its terroir.

The 2021 vintage is marked by deep ruby color, layered spicy aromas, and rich flavor notes of black cherry, plum, black pepper, dark chocolate, and tobacco – all elevated by barrique barrel aging, which adds complexity and depth.
