According to legend, Eger’s most famous wine, Bikavér, gave István Dobó’s armies tremendous strength even during the defense of the castle against the Turks. Every winery in and around Eger strives to uphold the reputation of Bikavér, and we, too, devote special attention to the production of our Bikavér wines. This dark ruby-colored, Kékfrankos-based red wine is spicy yet fruity, with notes reminiscent of red currants, complemented by the aroma of oak aging. It is a rich, harmonious wine with smooth tannins and a pleasant, dry palate. Aged for 18 months in oak barrels, it is then offered for consumption after a minimum of six months of bottle aging. An excellent choice to pair with dishes made from lamb, pork, and game, best served at 16–18°C.

Very good everyday Egri Bikavér with an excellent price-to-quality ratio. I have also tasted higher-level Thummerer wines, such as Superior, Grand Superior and Rebus, and of course they are more complex and refined. However, this Classicus is very enjoyable in its category.
It has a nice ruby colour, pleasant red fruit notes, some spice and a smooth, dry finish. The tannins are present but not too harsh, so the wine is easy to enjoy, especially with food. It works very well with meat dishes, goulash, grilled food or cheese.
When buying a larger quantity, even with international shipping, the price per bottle remains very attractive. For me, this makes it a wine I would gladly buy again. A solid and honest Bikavér for everyday drinking.
