The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world was once again a global celebration of excellence in 2025. This year’s event broke records, with wines from 57 countries, evaluated by 248 expert judges, including 22 Master Sommeliers and 72 Masters of Wine, all tasted blind and judged purely on quality.

We’re proud to share that all eight wines submitted by Thummerer Winery received medals, an achievement not only for us, but for the entire Eger wine region.

Behind Every Medal: Decades of Craftsmanship

A DWWA medal is not only a recognition, but a reflection of deep commitment, a result of careful vineyard selection, terroir-conscious winemaking, and a belief in the unique values of the Eger wine region. The fact that two of our wines scored 90 points is especially meaningful  this threshold marks a level of international recognition that can open doors around the globe.

Among the World’s Best

This year’s results clearly show the rising quality and global visibility of emerging regions – including Hungary. Our country earned 152 medals at DWWA 2025, including 16 Gold and 3 Platinum awards.

Why Does a DWWA Medal Matter?

Winning at DWWA is more than prestige it’s trust. A DWWA medal means that a wine was blind-tasted, judged only by its quality, and endorsed by some of the world’s top experts. For wine lovers, merchants, and professionals worldwide, it’s a symbol of authenticity, and for us, it opens up new opportunities and markets.

We thank our customers for their ongoing support, and our vineyard workers, winemakers, family members and colleagues for their tireless work and passion. This recognition is for all of us who believe in the power of Hungarian wine.
