We are deeply honored and proud to share that Thummerer Winery’s wines once again achieved outstanding results at the globally renowned Challenge International du Vin 2025 wine competition!
This prestigious annual event held in France is one of the oldest and most respected international wine competitions in the world. Wines are evaluated through a blind tasting conducted by a four-member panel composed of a technician, a winemaker, a distributor, and a seasoned consumer. This unique jury structure ensures that the awarded wines reflect both professional and consumer perspectives.
Our Award-Winning Wines
In the 2025 edition of the competition, three of our wines were honored, bringing great recognition to our winery and the Eger wine region.
Gold Medal: Egri Kékfrankos Superior Selection 2021
A medium-intensity purplish-red wine with violet hues on the rim. After a few minutes of aeration, its bouquet opens up beautifully, revealing finely layered aromas of sour cherry and plum, subtly wrapped in notes of cinnamon and dark chocolate. On the palate, it’s dry with elegant acidity, and medium tannins that become silky after some time in the glass. Its full body is harmoniously balanced by warm, fiery alcohol. The flavor is dominated by black berries, sour cherry, plum, blueberry, cloves, and spicy barrel notes. A long-lasting finish with cherry and chocolate undertones. A dynamic, rich-textured Kékfrankos that captivates with its elegance.
Gold Medal: Egri Syrah Superior Selection 2021
Harvested in late September at perfect ripeness, this Syrah highlights the variety’s signature aroma and flavor profile. Aged for 20 months in second-fill barrique barrels, followed by extensive bottle aging, the result is a vibrant, multifaceted red wine with a remarkably long finish.
Silver Medal: Tekenőháti Merlot Grand Superior 2021
A deep dark ruby-colored, full-bodied Merlot with intense aroma. Alongside its high alcohol content, it stands out with rich inner values, thanks to the low yield and careful selection of grapes. This “deep Merlot” offers a memorable experience for serious wine lovers, with great aging potential ensured by 18 months of barrique aging followed by long bottle maturation.
What This Award Means for Thummerer Winery
